Puppets

A few days ago, I mentioned a lighthearted show that the three of us watched. Almost every time I write, I include something from the Bible. Some of you know that son Kyle has an interest in puppets and animation. Today, let tell you about how those three things are connected.

When evening comes, work is done, dishes are washed, Jeopardy is over, and we’re waiting for a call from son Eric and his wife, the three of us have been watching a half hour segment of Phil Vischer’s What’s in the Bible with Buck Denver. Why would three adults tune in for a kids program complete with puppets and silly songs?

  1. This is an overview of every book of the Bible with solid theology.
  2. The format is fun and designed for short attention spans.
  3. The message of the series is God’s Rescue Plan for everyone.
  4. We liked Veggies Tales from Phil Vischer and this is more in depth.
  5. Puppets. Impressively, every character’s voice is performed by Phil.
  6. We need to focus on hope during this pandemic.
  7. We don’t have to make a decision every night about what to watch.

Prior to all church services and activities being cancelled indefinitely, I was part of a weekly Bible study taught by Patti Weeks. Patti has been presenting an overview of the story in the books of the Old Testament of the Bible. She has done a great job of reviewing the story each week and then continuing on. We were learning about the Kings of Israel when the class abruptly ended. Now I’m reviewing the same information and am able to watch 13 hours of programming that will cover all 66 books of the Bible from a recliner with my family.

Here’s some good news for you! You don’t need to buy DVDs to enjoy What’s in the Bible. If you are connected to Right Now Media, as many in our church are, What’s in the Bible is there. But if not, you can find it and other faith-building programming on the new Mr. Phil TV. Phil is offering a 14-day FREE TRIAL for all of the content. Your family can watch an hour a day, learn about the whole Bible, and cancel before your credit card is charged if you decide to.

With Easter just two weeks away, this would be an entertaining and educational way to focus on God. If you want to learn about the meaning of Easter, you can watch this 12 minute YouTube video in which Phil Vischer explains what Jesus did and why he did it. Have some tissues handy.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,

that whosoever believeth in him should not perish,

but have everlasting life.

John 3:16
