For the 15th Sunday, I sit down to write a prayer, to express faith in God, to encourage others to pray, to spread the hope of Jesus. In the beginning of the pandemic, I wrote something every day and a prayer on Sunday. After two months, the weekday posts became sparse. The time I had been committing to writing was reassigned to reading, as I went LIVE on Facebook with a daily video of a chapter from a book called Prayers of David, Becoming a Person After God’s Own Heart, and then a chapter a day from Warren W. Wiersbe’s Windows on the Parables. What a blessing it is to me to be able to share the truth of God’s Word and it’s meaning for our lives in these ways. I hope that it also blesses you. You can find videos of the Facebook readings on my Timeline under PHOTOS – VIDEOS. And you may watch me LIVE at 1 p.m. this Monday through Friday.
Please pray with me.
Our Holy God, we are in awe of who you are, knowing that you are eternal and that these days are in your hands. As difficult days and weeks and months pass, we sometimes become weary and anxious about our lives, our county, the world. And you say, “Come, all you who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” We accept that invitation now, remembering that when we praise you with grateful hearts and cast our cares upon you, you give us supernatural peace, the peace of Jesus Christ.
Even in the midst of trouble and confusion, you continue to love us, provide for us a way out of temptation, meet our needs, give us hope. All things belong to you and are in your service, for you alone are God. We thank you for your gift of salvation and the promise that you will never leave or forsake us. We have so much freedom in the truth that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus!
We confess that we let our minds wander into worry. We are rebellious children who grumble and complain. We seek our own good without caring much about the interests of others. Our pride gets the best of us as we form opinions and think less of those who differ with us. We put our trust in men and in ourselves instead of in you. We waste time instead of investing it in relationship with you and others. Please forgive us.
Lord, we see so much trouble in the world, in our world, even in our own minds. We need you, Holy Spirit, to clarify our thinking, to heal our hurts, to lead us in the paths of righteousness, to restore our souls. May your children, God, see clearly what you want us to be doing, how to be about our Father’s business, how to spread the Good News that your kingdom will never end, that life that is eternal and without sin and death is being offered through belief in and love for your son Jesus Christ. In His Name we pray. Amen.
Are not two sparrows sold for a penny?
Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.
And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
So don’t be afraid;
you are worth more than many sparrows. Matthew 10:29-31
