Today

Today is Friday, May 8, 2020. You’re welcome. If you’re reading on a later date, I apologize for the confusion.

During these days, weeks, and months of disrupted schedules and lives, it’s easy to lose track of the day of the week or the date of the month. No matter, it’s TODAY, the day that matters most. The sun came up again, even if we can’t see it for the clouds, or walls, or worries.

My plan was to go shopping at CVS. It would be my second outing this week, actually in six weeks. My PPM (personal protection men) have been doing the grocery shopping and occasional meal pick ups. You know, when you stop doing something for a while, it can be hard to start back up, but I went to Joann Fabric on Wednesday (I think). It felt a little weird wearing a mask, but the employees did a great job of serving me and seeing that all shoppers followed the safety practices.

This morning was cloudy with rain, tempting me to stay in, but thinking everybody else might stay in, I headed for CVS. We needed laundry soap for the weekend. Turning off my engine in the parking lot, I saw a man with a mask and a mother and child with masks. I decided not to feel worried about shopping today and to enjoy it as much as possible. I found the items on my list quickly and then browsed through the food aisles, restocking enough basics to take the pressure of of my PPM for a while. Familiar songs were playing and I sang along, telling the cashier that it’s great wearing a mask in a store when you want to sing along with the music. He chuckled.

I pushed the cart of supplies outside, loaded them into my car, and thought I’d leave my mask on till I got home so I wouldn’t touch my face, but Lincoln Brewster was on the radio talking about when he and Paul Baloche wrote TODAY IS THE DAY. I have sung, danced, cried to that song, so off came my mask so I could worship unmuffled. I’m including the words below and encouraging you to listen HERE, especially if you appreciate great guitar playing or are missing crowded concerts.

TODAY IS THE DAY
I putting my fears aside
I’m leaving my doubts behind
I’m giving my hopes and dreams to You
Jesus
I’m reaching my hands to Yours
Believing there’s so much more
Knowing that all You have in store for me is good
Is good
Today is the day You have made
I will rejoice and be glad in it
Today is the day You have made
I will rejoice and be glad in it
And I won’t worry about tomorrow
I’m trusting in what You say
Today is the day
I will stand upon Your truth
And all my days I’ll live for You
And I will stand upon Your truth
And all my days I’ll live for You
Today is the day You have made
I will rejoice and be glad in it
Today is the day You have made
I will rejoice and be glad in it
And I won’t worry about tomorrow
I’m giving You my fears and sorrows
Where You lead me I will follow
I’m trusting in what You say
Today is the day
I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High. Psalm 9:2
